The University of Texas Tyler School of Medicine seeks an energetic and dedicated leader to serve as Program Director of the Psychiatry Residency Program.
The UT Tyler Health Science Center Psychiatry program started as a division of Internal Medicine in 2014. The program quickly increased the faculty complement and became its own Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in September 2017. The first class of residents was accepted in July 2017, and the program now supports its full complement of 24 residents with the seventh class having started in July of 2023.
The program partners with two psychiatric state hospitals, Rusk State Hospital and Terrell State Hospital. Residents rotate on their acute inpatient, child & adolescent, geriatric and forensic units. The program also has a partnership with Cenikor Foundation substance abuse rehab/treatment center for residents to gain the experience of dealing with the day-to-day struggles of individuals with dependency issues.
The UT Tyler Health Science Center is part of a larger healthcare network which encompasses ten facilities across the East Texas region. Its medical school, UT Tyler School of Medicine, welcomed their first class of students in July 2023. Construction has begun on a new $308 million Medical Education Building and represents an expansion of the UT Health East Texas System. UT Tyler, UT Health East Texas and the University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center have formed a partnership to improve the educational and healthcare outcomes of East Texas.
