The University of Texas Tyler School of Medicine and UT Health East Texas seek an accomplished leader to serve as the Founding Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of Women’s Services. The Department Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology will be broadly responsible for the administration of strategic, academic, and clinical initiatives within the Department. The Chair will work collaboratively with the Vice Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs who provides central campus leadership and administrative oversight in academic and faculty related functions, regarding oversight of academic programs for SOM, recruitment and career advancement of faculty, and policy development and interpretation.
The Chair will be responsible for the assurance of excellence in community engagement, education, and research within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as for partnership with health system leaders in the delivery of top-quality clinical care. The Chair will be instrumental in the strategic expansion of women’s health services across all clinical service lines of UT Health East Texas and will oversee all divisions and programs within the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Chair will work collaboratively to support successful existing educational and research programs and will participate or lead the development of new initiatives to meet the needs of the SOM and the community, including development of a Women’s Service Line. The Chair will have administrative responsibility for the Department and will provide professional leadership for its activities, including supporting the educational mission within the department.
The Chair will also participate in hospital committee functions and administrative duties as assigned, will provide education and training to residents, medical students, and other trainees, and will participate in research and outreach activities. The distribution of effort between these duties will be assigned by the Dean of the SOM.
